 Tips for Beginners

  • Practice at least twice a week to experience maximum benefits

  • Stay hydrated so you are not thirsty during class

  • Wait 2 hours after eating before practice

  • Wear comfortable, fitted clothing so movement is not restricted

  • We practice barefoot in yoga and pilates.  Socks will slip on your mat.

  • Please don’t wear perfume, cologne, or strongly-scented body products to class.

  • Always work at your own level and listen to your body.

  • Take care of yourself and enjoy your personal practice both in and out of class

Class/Workshop Etiquette

Please arrive early (15-20 minutes).  This will give you time to sign in, relax, stretch, meditate, leave outside concerns behind, and maximize your practice experience. Classes will begin promptly and this extra time to be present is an added gift to yourself.

We encourage you to leave cell phones in your vehicle.  It is easy to forget to turn them off and cell phone jingles tend to disrupt the energy of any class or workshop.  This is your time (and others’) to leave the hustle and bustle behind.

Once you have taken your shoes off, please take this time to move inward, observe social silence or communicate with others in a way that does not disturb your fellow students.

We begin all classes by sharing first names.  It is our hope that this will help you feel more connected to the Mountain Waves community.

Drinking water is imperative.  Please do so before and after, but not during class. Hydrating during the entire day will keep the body functioning more efficiently and leave you less thirsty during class.

If you find you will be more than 10 minutes late for class, consider coming another time.  This is for your own physical wellbeing in addition to respect for those in class already.  Classes are designed to progressively warm up soft tissues. Your body will thank you.

If you feel physically ill or know you are ill, please stay home and take care of your body.  Rejoin us when physical exertion is appropriate.

If you are entering class late, or leaving early, please do so quietly so as not to disturb others.  If you know you will need to leave early, please inform your instructor before class so they won’t be concerned.
